Painting- Abstractions & Family Portraits
Painting, to me, is a refuge, a space where I found solace in the pursuit of control and the freedom to define my artistic narrative on my own terms. I vividly remember my college days, a time when my paintings of family and loved ones were consistently labeled as political, scrutinized for their apparent commentaries on gender and race. Frustration brewed as my intimate, personal expressions were boxed into broader societal conversations.
Amidst the tension, I turned to painting as a haven—a medium that allowed me to harness control over my artistic voice. Here, I could create worlds that were uniquely my own, free from the preconceived notions imposed on my work. It became a canvas where I could explore and communicate the intricacies of my emotions, experiences, and identity without external constraints.
As I dipped my brushes into the colors of my emotions, I discovered that painting enabled me to express myself in ways that transcended words. My work took on a depth and nuance that defied categorization, evoking personal stories and emotions that went beyond predefined labels. Painting became my sanctuary, a space where my innermost thoughts, struggles, and joys could be captured in strokes, hues, and textures, forging a profound connection between me and my audience.
In the world of painting, I found a voice that was uniquely mine, an avenue for self-expression that remained untouched by external expectations. It became a means to break free from the constraints of predetermined narratives, allowing me to craft my stories and evoke emotions that were true to my experience. Through painting, I've uncovered a realm of artistic independence and authenticity that continues to inspire me to this day.
